Sketchdump 3

I’ve been meaning to do another sketchdump for a while now, but I hadn’t been sketching very seriously until recently, so some of these are pretty old. These are of my better sketches, not only quick doodles. And since I went on my camping trip, during which I couldn’t draw much on my children’s book, I’m out of sorts again and need to get back on track. Thus my submitting this in an effort to get into a productive mood again.

The sketches are roughly in chronological order, at least as well as I could make them while still having them all fit together. In order from left to right, going down, they are…

Miss Myrtle taking care of a sick Tom, ‘cause I hadn’t drawn them in a while (this is from last December). This was supposed to be a touching moment, but it turned out sadder than I intended
A random, enchained Ihkamin, also sad (I must have been subconsciously sad that December ). I had recently heard Abba’s Chiquitita [link] and the line “you’re enchained by your own sorrow” stuck in my head, so I drew this.
Some sketches I copied from this [link] I like ’s style for drawing humans and I wanted to get the feel of drawing in that style.
My creature, the chird [link] , which is unique to my mythical land Mithian. After seeing that my friend had recreated my drawing in our triple friend meme [link] for panel 7 , I wanted to draw it again
Some sketches of myself, trying to get my style for drawing humans right. It didn’t work very well as these were the only descent sketches on that page of my sketch book >__<
Some more chird sketches, along with some crappy headshots of Malimar and one of Rainbow Dash too (whose expression I was trying to give Malimar). At this point, I was sketching all in pen to try to force myself to not rely on erasing. It didn’t really work since I was still drawing the basic shapes in pencils instead of drawing it all from scratch with a pen. Also, I started to rate my sketches. An X means I hate it and it sucks, a star means I particularly like it (at least at the time I drew it), and a ~ means it needs improving.
Queen Chrysalis from the finale of season 2 of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic [link] (It’s still one of my favorite episodes…for now. Season 3 is airing soon and it looks awesome. Check out this sneak peak [link] ).
An autobot transformer I designed. I was watching a lot of Transformers Animated at the time, so I drew him in its style.
Some drawings of my character Nott the squirrel, Mertain the mouse, and Stree the chinchilla in more or less the MLP:FIM style. Ignore the notes I wrote next to them.
Some sketches of Alecious (not part of the sketch of Alecious below it). I was, again, revamping my Mithain characters and world, wanting to develop them some more. This goes for the next several sketches of Malimar, Thernose, and Chorcious too. If they look better than my usual sketches, that’s because I was looking at other people’s sketches as a reference for many of their poses and expressions.
The sketch of the narnar and the spider and Alecious (drawn in 5 minutes and thus crappy) were drawn before the other Mithian sketches I talked about above. The narnar is very small, very noisy bird in Mithian, shouting “Nar!” when it’s frightened, hence its name. It’s based on a private joke my twin started, which is him saying “nar” every time a robin we were watching pecked at the ground for worms.
Some sketches of my character Anabelle Gerkin Springer “the third”, a character I’m currently developing. The “the third” bit is something she added for fun. She’s not really the third Anabelle Gerkin Springer. Belle, as she likes to be called, is meant to be a character that I can putting her into crazy situations and have her do crazy things. I feel that my other characters are too pigeon-holed into certain roles and stories, so I’m making Belle someone who I can just have fun with. I’ll be submitting more stuff about her soon so stay tuned.
Some sketches of Merida and other characters from Disney’s Brave, which I saw shortly before going off on my camping trip. I had to look at some references while I was drawing them. And there are two random wolves too, though they look more like dogs or foxes XD
A stonehenge ‘cause I felt like drawing stonehenges after seeing Brave.
More sketches of Belle in different poses and outfits, just to get a better feel for her character and the style I’m drawing her in, which is somewhat modeled after the MLP:FIM style, particularly her hair and eyes. Because of this, I’m currently debating whether to keep her sideburns and eyebrows since the ponies don’t have any (usually), but I think Belle looks kinda strange without them, but they can be tricky to draw. Any suggestions?
