Where to begin. Well, I’ve been in a very nostalgic mood lately: playing old Nintedo and Nintedo 64 games with my brothers and friends, home for the summer, watching The Nostalgia Critic, etc. This made me look at things a little differently, one of which is my old stuffed cheetah Chi Chi.
I’ve had Chi Chi for as long as I can remember, and she has always been my favorite of all the stuffed animals I had over the years. Believe it or not, according to my parents, I actually took her off a shelf in a toy store in a local mall when I was a baby, unnoticed by either my parents or store staff until we had gotten home, by which point my parents were unsure which store Chi Chi had come from. My twin brother also stole a similar stuffed lion. Needless to say, they never returned either of them to the store and I still have Chi Chi to this day
Back home for the summer, back in my bedroom again, I noticed her sitting on my nightstand and started remembering all of my experiences with her when I was younger. We were a regular Calvin and Hobbes she and I with me pretending we were on adventures and such. I used to tie a blanket around her neck like a cloak and giver a pair of scissors for a sword (hence this drawing). She’s all ratty and threadbare now, but she’s still my favorite.
This isn’t exactly what she looks like. I stylized her a bit and made her proportions more humanoid, but I still tried to keep her fairly doll-like. I’m very happy with how this turned out. So much so that I might make this into a fully-colored digital piece if I have the time this summer.
